The first large scale social infrastructure project in decades.
The contracts for the three storey Multi-Purpose Social Care Centre were signed by Pafos mayor Phaidon Phaidonos and contractor company A. N . Ioannou Construction Ltd.
Total construction cost is estimated at 3,665,200 euros.
It will be located on Vasileos Konstantinou Street with a total area of 2,352 square meters.
The ground floor will host an Afternoon Children’s Care Centre with the capacity to host 60 children and three playgrounds (2 indoor and 1 outdoor).
The first floor Child Care Centre has a capacity to host 104 children aged 2-4, with a nursery on the 2nd floor hosting up to 30 children 4 months to 2 years.
The 3rd floor is a senior citizens space for 30 people.
The kitchen will also be located on the 3rd floor, serving the entire Centre, a rest room and an administrator’s office.
The basement includes a 28-space parking place.
Speaking at the contract signing ceremony, Mayor Phaidonos pointed out the value of the project, particularly for working families, as it caters for two basic needs missing from city services:
- a) An afternoon care centre for the children of those working in the private sector and
- b) Childcare for working mothers.
He noted that the hosting of children will come at a very low cost for families, in state of the art facilities meeting all the required specifications.
The project is co-financed by the European Cohesion Fund and Pafos Municipality of Paphos, while the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance has additionally covered the operating costs of the first two years with 400 thousand euros.
